Okay, I never post long blogs because honestly I don’t have a lot of time to work with.  I’m first and foremost a Mother of my “Two Little Cupcakes”!  But not only am I a mother but I’m also a wife, a dog mama, I own 3 businesses(yes, I’m a total #bossbabe LOL), a volunteer at my boys school and just another human being trying to be the best human I can be!  WOW, no wonder I’m always exhausted.

Now, on the serious side, if anything ever happened to my “Two Little Cupcakes” I would probably want to die!  That is why this Make-A-Wish campaign is so important to me on a personal level.  As some of you know I used to own a child care centre in America and I also was a pre-school teacher.  I worked with lots of children at pre-school and elementary school level as also a Mad Science teacher.  So, in other words, I worked with lots of children and was a strong advocate for children.  Children are such a important part of our society and I only wish the best for each and everyone of them.  And I also know that we can’t save every child but if you have the opportunity to save just one child….why the heck wouldn’t you?

Earlier in the year I was approached by Make-A-Wish Australia to help them with what I do best now….BAKE!  It’s a campaign called Bake-A-Wish!  Now, here’s what I got excited about!  It was super easy to become part of this campaign and why not?  Yes, I don’t make a million dollars out of baking but I do like to give back(don’t tell my husband).  Just kidding he loves to help out too!  But we’re just another Aussie family trying to get ahead like everyone else.

For the next couple of months I’m going to donate a portion of all cake & market proceeds to Make-A-Wish Australia in hope that I(we) can make a difference in at least one child’s life.  I’m hoping that others will join me in this and help me get as much money donated as possible.

Yesterday was a wet and dreary day on the Gold Coast and I just got back from a market when I thought to myself….is it all worth it?  Then I opened the following email from Make-A-Wish Australia:

Hi Rachelle,

We hope you’re enjoying being part of Bake A Wish! We’re loving seeing all of our bakers pictures- if you use social media, make sure you tag us using @makeawishaust and #bakeawishau.

By participating in our Bake A Wish campaign, you’re helping us make more vital wishes come true for really sick kids like Charli.

6 year old Charli has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, and wasn’t able to have any real contact with animals throughout her treatment. So when her treatment finished, her wish was for a yellow Labrador puppy named Lola.

The positive impact of Charli’s wish was clear before Lola had even arrived. As soon the wish journey began, Charli forgot about how sick she had been and could only think about Lola! She was soon busy preparing a list of all the things Lola would need.

Since Lola came into her life, there has been a huge positive change both physically and mentally in Charli, along with feelings that can only be described as “pure joy!”. They love to play fetch together in the backyard without a worry in the world – exactly as it should be for this bright, bubbly 6 year old.

“It was as if our bright shining light was dimmed…and once her wish was granted her light was re-lit and is now beginning to shine again, bigger and brighter every day!” – Charli’s Mum

Thank you so much for using your baking skills to make more wishes like Charli’s come true!

Now….I was thinking how could I think is it worth it?  Of course it’s worth every second I spend shopping for ingredients, baking, loading the ute, transporting, setting up, selling, breaking down, unloading the ute, and doing it all again the next weekend!  I was actually ashamed for thinking it.  I needed that reminder at that moment.  And I also shared the emailed straight away on my Fb page along with my husband.  As I read it to him aloud I swear I saw tears in his eyes.  EVERY CHILD IS WORTH IT!  Don’t ever give up!  So for the next couple of months please help if you can and donate or order a cake or come by the markets and buy a cupcake or 6!  And know that just for Treating yo’self you’re helping a child’s wish come true.
